Nu as putea sa fiu asa.

Astronauts And Longevity

Here is another controversial personal opinion: I believe in survival of the fittest. Please bare with me on this logic and you will see why. Do you watch the moon? Do you notice the stars on the sky at night? Do you like the rays of sunshine coming down on your furniture? I do. I enjoy all the natural light I can get. Even the light of the moon gives me a great energy. I guess once I get another pandemic episode, if ever, or just a sabbatic year with my son, I should buy a telescope and watch the stars at night. I am also really passionate about flights, airplanes, airports. There it all makes sense. It’s all so much under rules that I feel safe. It’s a crazy way of thinking that it’s all under control, but somehow this is how I feel over there. And when I am up in the sky I get to see the lovely rays of sun, to be above the clouds, to feel on top of the world, above any fear. I have never been afraid to fly, I love pilots and I admire flight attendants. Have you noticed all that coolness? I could not be like that. They must have some “ice” deposited in the back of their minds to be so great with so many people. And beyond pilots, flying up there in the sky, there are the astronauts. I guess these guys get to see that “top of the world” more than we do. Maybe for them the sky is the “usual day at the office”. For us it’s a getaway from the crazy routine of life. As I only fly on vacations or for work, I used to see it as an opportunity to collect photos of the clouds.

So, hear me out as I get to think of further details regarding the sky, the radiation exposure and the miracle of long life. As I was pregnant with my baby and had to fly out, I looked into dangers of such a trip. The extra caring moms are also talking about radiation exposure of the baby during the flight. I didn’t get into that. Why? Because the reasoning from above: I admire pilots and astronauts. They get to see the skies much more than we do. And they live longer than most of us. So do you think their longevity could come from high radiation exposure? Take a more down to earth example: Chernobyl. The catastrophe made even nature give some abnormalities and yet, there are documentaries that show the abnormal offsprings were soon gone and animals, although with high level of radiations within their small or big bodies, still lived on. So, coming back to the fear of radiation, I would say the astronauts are actually a very good example of a fit person who can outlive many others living under “healthy” conditions. And this thinking got me even further: these guys have a regular diet as they cannot exceed with the eating, having portions of food, they do sports, as their hearts need to survive different pressures, temperatures and sometimes adrenaline rush. Still they live to be 80-90 years old. While we are living our asses down here on earth stressing about useless stuff, not trusting ourselves and even embracing drug usage from time to time to make ourselves feel better, these guys are living the actual life under heavy radiations and proving our theories on cancer quite wrong. Can you imagine an astronaut consuming drugs up there? Can you imagine him indulging in meat or refusing proteins when his head needs to be as clear as possible? I would love to find out more about the daily routine of such a person. I am pretty sure all my theory stands and we may foolishly blame radiations for our cancers.

In the context of the current pandemics, I believe the world of tomorrow will rely on the strongest survival people. Those testing to become astronauts are clearly most fit. But beside them, there are also strong regular people, not embracing such a job, born or raised into such humans. I believe we turn into an extremely individualized society based on survival of the fittest.
