[edgtf_dropcaps type=”normal” color=”#d6a67c” background_color=””]I[/edgtf_dropcaps]n evolutia noastra ca oameni avem nevoie de lucruri diferite in functie de momente diferite.

Uneori investitia prea rapida in anumite lucruri nu a dat roade. La munte All Terrain s-a dovedit inutil.

Baby Things

sustainability

[edgtf_dropcaps type=”normal” color=”#d6a67c” background_color=””]I[/edgtf_dropcaps]n our evolution as human beings we need different things at different moments. Same happens with a kid’s evolution. And obviously that sometimes as we grow we discover some things are better than what we were using. When our baby was six months old we were prepared already with the second bunch of pacifiers and bottles, stroller, even two strollers. At twelve months old we were almost ready with certain things. Later at eighteen months we got help from the kid to realize we needed to make a change. The kid is beginning to claim his changes after turning 1 year old. Somehow he is smart enough to show you if something bothers him. Teeth help him discover if something is wrong or needs replacement. This is how we came to see at eighteen months that we haven’t changed the teats of his bottles and pacifiers for quite some time. Our kid has not chewed on teats. We heard all sort of stories from other terrified parents of their kid’s deed and somehow we were expecting the same to happen to us. Still it didn’t happen and we were carrying on not thinking for a second if they were still good or not. We had this expectation that they would become used and we did not buy new ones until we noticed he was playing with the bottle more than drinking his milk in the morning or in the evening. We quickly went and bought new ones. And the baby was again enjoying his bottle. Somehow teats need replacement as they are silicon. Probably sterilizing them frequently or heavy usage affects their integrity. There are stories saying that the baby should go to drinking from the cup at 1 year old. Nestle has a promotional cup which my kid loved for drinking water then he forgot about it after we tried feeding his the evening milk from it. Somehow kids know best what is right for them.

For example the pacifiers we changed because we realized he did not like anymore some of the pieces. He developed his own preference so we went from Philips to Dr. Brown. The ones from Dr. Brown have a rather anatomical shape and it doesn’t seem to bother his teething. He loves this Dr. Brown. We will see how he develops further and when he forgets about it. We decided to allow him till he has overcome the teething period as otherwise he is very irritated by the pains and this object gives him a very nice comfort.

Next thing was the high chair which was modified from one level to another depending on the little one’s critics. Had I taken only the instructions the chair came with, the baby would have been terribly unhappy. So we decided to listen to his demands. For example the table attached to the chair that babies eat on, was not to his liking. He wanted to join us at our table. He is a grown up man in a small size. I am kidding! But he is behaving as if he is such. Now we were thinking of firing the high chair and use only the riser with safety belts. The kid does not like very much to be treated as a kid. We have an adult among us and that is why we decided to respect that. The high chair was highly hated until we removed the additional plastic table and we have put the little man at the table. Then he became very important and the high chair was loved. Now the chair has multiple food remains because we are not yet used to eating like a grownup. But I like the fact that he stays on the expensive chair. He would like any other high chair also. You can save your money and not buy expensive ones. The high chair is something you can go for the cheap version.

Sometimes the quick investment in certain things does not pay of. For example GB pockit All Terrain is most practical for parents travelling by plane. If you are looking for something for the city, you have to learn to stick to the first and only necessary stroller (2 or 3 in 1). The GB was somehow a personal caprice to have a small and compact stroller to quickly open up for the kid. Actually the kid did not really enjoy it. And in the mountains All Terrain proved useless as it gets stuck in the smallest whole. Also, the position of the baby is not good at all for the baby’s spine.

Sipping cups – this is a personal passion so I have bought all sorts of models nice and interesting: bottles, cups, sipping cups, handles for older bibs. My son has decided he is a grown man and drinks from the bottle just like us or from the mug or glass. Cups were definitely a bad investment. Maybe later I will live to see him use them.

Eating bowls and utensils were also declared useless from the beginning. I was dreaming of going with my baby in the park and enjoying a snack together. We didn’t have that. My son wanted to eat on his own the banana, to have variations of food he can eat with his own hands. Even the soup he discovered he can eat on his own: he sips the liquid and he is eating the vegetables one by one. He is an extraordinary kid and I am glad to see him so determined and independent, so the investments are saved for later in the cupboard.

The baby car seat: this is something you need to be careful about as he needs good positioning in the first 6 months. Many people recommend the shell car seat. I can tell you we have tried that but the baby did not fit properly. He is better in a car seat properly built for 0-6 months also. Doctors recommend the baby does not travel in the car during his first months of life. If you must travel with the baby it’s best to do it on short distances and have a very solid car seat for the first period of life. We got a Joie 0-24 months and then another one fron Bastian Lionelo which goes up to 36 months. The second one is perfect for this period (18 months) and short voyages. The baby can watch out the window. First one is solid and the baby is well positioned for long drives. Unless he gets bored on the long drives, he is perfectly fine in this option and we can’t help the boredom.

The kid’s playground: we bought a simple Lionelo 1x1m which later became a sort of travel bed. For play it was excelent as the baby would rise himself to the margins and then walk around. Sometimes he would get into it and come out of it as it has a special door. Nowadays it’s a travel bed with an added customised mattress from http://www.puidesomn.ro. We have added this as it made it comfortable and breathable. It’s padded with wool and covered in cotton. Perfect for a little one and just like his home bad. These days his playground is made out of Ikea table and chair where he plays happily with his toys.

Last thing on the necessary things is the tooth brush. This has multiple types so we first got a set with three options based on his age. Then we got a Curasept one as we all own such a toothbrush, of course his is for kids. Then we got an electric version. Finally the kid is happy with my electric one, so only an extra head was necessary and the play is on. It’s a game for them at this age, but they learn as they watch us do stuff. If we brush our teeth in the morning, then they will want to do the same.

Main thing is not to get used to the baby and not to let him live with the usual things. I have made a list when he was about 2 months old with all the things that needed to be adjusted once 6 months. Also, 12 and 18 months. His pacifier is very important to be changed. Not just for cleaning reasons, but also because he is growing as a whole. His mouth and his teeth and his whole body is growing. Also things need to be adjusted, not just the clothes. But from the description above there are also useless objects which need no rush to buy.
